Obviously, if you are in e-business, you gotta monitor your web site usage statistics.

What is the software you use (free or paid) and how do you evaluate it? Do you find it gives you accurate information? What stats are you closely looking at?

I work with Webalizer (provided by my hosting company) and I think they are one of the best on the market. In fact, it was one of the main features I was looking in a hosting company when shopping for service. Brilliant stats, simple to use, simple to analyse that give you just enough coverage of your audience.

I do also have AWStats and they are more descriptive that Webalizer. They also come in a package with my hosting provider and stats with AWStats are usually more higher than with Webalizer. Stats offer keyword searches (very useful tool) and time spent on your site by users.

Analog stats are just a mess and are to be ignored in my opinion. If I were to follow them, my site could be as well more popular than Yahoo! right now. :D

Best,
